Back in Texas

We are back in Texas. We thought, compared to the trip to the Faroes, the trip to Texas would be short and easy. Boy, were we wrong! We arrived at the airport in good time and planned on taking our time enjoying breakfast, playing at the play ground and say hello to granddad. But, at the check in counter, all those plans went down the drain. They told us, there was something wrong with my ticket and that I could not get on the plane. And, of course, they told us, they could not help us. The few attempts they made, they made a lot of mistakes and almost sent me to Hartford, CT with another Davis family. At that point, mom got really angry with them. I didn't understand all that was going on and just sat in the stroller like a good boy and ate my gum bears and sent mom kisses. All of a sudden, they came up with a way to get me to Amsterdam. We had to run to make the flight and they closed the doors right behind us. In Amsterdam, we had to take care of the rest of my ticket. It was not a big deal and in the end, we had 30 minutes to relax, play and have something to eat.
The big airplane was really big. I was asleep when we came on board and when I finally woke up I was mostly interested in running around and playing with all the other kids. Fortunately, we were able to switch seats, so we sat by the aisle. This meant, we didn't have to interrupt all the people around us every time we wanted to walk around - and this was quite often. It was a long flight, but I was a really good boy.
Grandma and granddad came to pick us up at the airport. We drove in the bus to get to the car and I loved sitting in the bus and watching all the planes outside. Back at home, we took a quick shower and headed out to get some food. I crashed shortly after we made it home. I was so tired.

Sunday morning, I was (unfortunately) up bright and early. We played and did house chores. I also got a hair cut. See my hairy back!
I was in a better mood after my nap and we decided to head over to aunt Tara. Everyone was there and granddad and I headed into the pool. I have missed the swimming pools and all the water. After the visit, I went home with grandma and granddad. I spent the night with them and Kaitlin and Mitchell were also there.
I had a blast playing with Kaitlin and Mitchell on Monday. When mom was off from work, granddad took me home. We were going to pick up dad at the airport. I enjoyed to bus ride again and screamed and clapped every time, I saw a plane. I went straight to dad when I saw him and helped him carry the luggage out to the bus.
I have been at home with dad today and we have done a lot f things around here. Dad cut his hair, we went to visit mom at the office and after dinner, we made chocolate chip cookies.Publish PostBenjamin

August 17

We left the Faroes today and flew to Denmark. Tomorrow, we will continue to Houston. I fell asleep the minute, we took off and slept all the way to Copenhagen.

We got the best room at the hotel: A room with a view of the airport and a busy street with busses and all sorts of vehicles. I prefer to stand by the window a look out side.

We went back to see Tivoli. This time, we did some rides too. I flew several planes.
Drove a few veteran cars and rode a camel on the caroussel.
Back at the hotel, granddad came to visit. He is flying today too and will head out to Greenland tomorrow. He gave me a little airplane.
Bathtime and then bedtime. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow.Benjamin

August 16

Since we are leaving tomorrow, a lot of people either stopped by or called to say good bye. I have such a great family. They love me and I really love them. From left to right: Omma, Rakul, Ólavur, ommedid, langabbi, langomma and Gunnvá.Langabbi and I are best friends. We played, chatted and he put me down for my nap.
When I woke back up, there were so many kids to play with. Here are Gunnvá, Ronja and Emi.
Aunt Jenny and Sølva stopped by with their parents.
Langabbi and Djóni relaxed on the sofa and langabbi was silly and put a shawl over his head.
Langomma could not stop laughing at him.
We decided to head out to the local aquarium to see all the fish and crabs.
Ólavur told me the names of many of the fish.
We were allowed to touch some of the small crabs, starfish and other small creatures.
But, the favourite thing in all of the aquarium was the little water hose.
Here we all are (from left to right): Emi, Djóni, Ronja, me and Gunnvá.
We saw a couple of horses on our way back home, and of course, we had to stop to take a closer look.Back at home, we managed a quick turn around and headed back out to visit aunt Birita and her husband Bárður. They live right around the corner.

Mamma and I have had such a great trip to the Faroes and really enjoyed seeing everyone and especially enjoyed the wedding. We are looking forward to spending Christmas in the Faroes and hope to get to visit more people them. Thank you for a super two weeks.

August 15

Today, we visited ommedid (grandma's sister). The original game plan was to head to Vestmanna bright and early, but from the start, things got delayed. (We slept in, ran some errands, visited aunt Jenny during her lunch break at school). In Vestmanna, ommedid had waffles ready for us, when we showed up.
Ommedid and I had a good conversation about the weather and waffles.
I wanted to see how the waffles were made. And then, I also wanted to touch the waffle maker - guess who burnt his hand? Yes, me! It really hurt! I didn't want to hold my hand still under the cold, running water. The only solution was to head next door to the big river.
Crawl under the fence. It is a pretty big river - specially when it rains. Can you see us?
We had a good time. When mamma, mostur and aunt Birita were little girls, they used to play here too. In the summer, when it was warm enough, they sometimes swam in the pool below.
Great view.
I didn't want to go back inside, but I was soaked and had to change to dry clothes. Omma, mamma and mostur had to run a couple of errands and in the mean time, I got some alone time with Aunt Birita (she is the one who got married), ommedid and langomma.
Later, langabbi came by too and he gave me some of the dried sheep meat. I actually really liked it and kept asking for more. Yummi.

August 14

Guess what I woke up to this morning? Yes, the garbage truck!! Then the radio read the current, local weather. The weather is Vestmanna was dry and no wind, so called langabba immediately and asked for a boat ride. He told us to head his way. Before anyone heads out anywhere, they have to stop by langomma's kitchen for some tea/coffee and food. So did we.
Then on with the booths and fishing clothes.
I was the captain as we sailed out towards the strait. At first, we aimed at all the birds floating in the water, so we didn't exactly sail in a straight line.
We stopped by the fish farm and saw all the fish swim around and jump out of the water.
Abbi came along for the trip and here the two of us look like a couple of real men of the sea .
When we made it out into the strait, we tried our luck and yes, we caught some fish immediately. Abbi caught the first one. I was not sure what to think at first. Usually, fish come in all sorts of colors and they live in the aquarium.
Mamma caught the next fish. I caught one too. All in all, we managed to catch 12 big and small fish. Langabbi sailed around and searched for fish and abbi, mamma and I did the fishing.
On the way back home, I enjoyed the view and all the water around me.
Ommudid (omma's sister) saw us head back in and took a few pictures of us. See, here we are, the boat floating low in the water because of all the fish, we caught today!!
Langabbi showed me all the fish on the way in.
I really liked all the fish and decided to kiss one of them. But, they aren't all that kissable. They are cold and taste fishy.Back at the boathouse, abbi and langabbi had to work on the boat wagon that pulls the boat into the boathouse. Once it was fixed, we headed back to langomma's kitchen for dinner and dessert. Then langabbi and I looked out the kitchen window and waved at everyone walking by and played on the piano in the den. Right before we headed back home, Uncle Jón, Jakoba, Aunt Jenny and Tordis came to say hello and play with me.
I fell asleep in the car and slept hard. It took a good while to wake back up. At omma's house, uncle Tóri and his girlfriend, Sunneva were waiting for me. I played with them some and then they headed to the movies. I was really happy, they came to visit me. I was just so tired. Being a fisherman is a hard life.

A super day and a super boat ride!

August 13

Monday morning was grey, windy and rainy, but we got dressed and headed to Rituvík to visit ommu (grandma), abba (granddad) and my two uncles/godfathers.They have two dogs and I really liked playing with them. I fed them lots of food and snacks. A little later langabbi (great granddad) and ommubeiggi (grandma's brother) stopped by. They brought a big bag of candy. I figured it was mine, since I love this type of candy. UncleTóri and uncle Niclas didn't care that much for all the candy. Lucky me.
Just as we were headed out the door to visit Fríðbjørg og Andreas langabbabeiggja (great granddad's brother), I noticed uncle Niclas' guitars. He owns several guitars and he played a few songs for me too. He is very good at it. Finally, we managed to get out the door. Andreas langabbabeiggi owns two big display boxes with big bugs. He collected them himself when he sailed around the world. (Unfortunately) I recognized several of the bugs.

Sunday morning, or rather on Sunday, several of the wedding guests stopped by to visit me. They had stayed overnight at the hotel and were heading home. Langabbi (great granddad) played hide and seek with me and teddy.John and Teitur played with me outside and we managed to blow millions of soap bubbles.
And Jón-gubbi, mamma and I have started a band. We are not sure about what music group we belong to, but we sound great.
